KSMT “The Mountain” (102.1/102.7), in conjunction with the Summit Foundation, is proud to present a new monthly scholarship for Summit High School Seniors that have a commitment to our community. The KSMT Community Connection Scholarship is designed to reward SHS Seniors for their community service. Each Month, December-May, we will award $1021 to an exceptional SHS Senior who has made a difference to our community.

Please attach a one page essay which details your commitment to community service and what you have personally done to make an impact on our community.

SUMMIT HIGH SENIOR HELPS COMMUNITY, WINS SCHOLARSHIP

Alyson Brozovich
April Community Connection Scholarship Recipient, Alyson Brozovich

KSMT “The Mountain”, in conjunction with the Summit Foundation, has awarded the April KSMT Community Connection Scholarship of $1021 to Alyson Brozovich of Breckenridge.  KSMT is honored to present Alyson with the KSMT Community Connection Scholarship that she can use to further his education. Alyson plans to attend Whitman College in Walla Walla, Washington.

Alyson Brozovich has dedicated her spare time to various organizations throughout Summit County.  Alyson is a strong believer that animals deserve the same treatment as people do and that is why she has volunteered at the Summit County Animal Shelter since she was young. As a sophomore, Alyson created the Human Education Program, a program that targets Summit Middle School students and teaches them about animal rights and caring for pets.  Alyson has helped the Summit Foundation for many years at their annual Duck Race and Hockey Classic. Alyson is most passionate about her time spent with the Summit Community Care Clinic. At the clinic, she has learned how to check in patients, record their vitals and medical history, and has also done translation for Hispanic patients.  Alyson plans to study Biology and Foreign Languages at Whitman College in Walla Walla, Washington.

January CommunityConnection Scholarship Recipient, Marie Oberriter

KSMT “The Mountain”, in conjunction with the Summit Foundation, has awarded the January KSMT Community Connection Scholarship of $1021 to Marie Oberriter of Dillon.  Marie’s hard work at Summit High School and dedication to community service is something that KSMT wanted to reward her for.  KSMT is honored to present Marie with the KSMT Community Connection Scholarship that she can use to further her education at the school of her choice. Marie hopes to attend Boise State University.

Marie has continuously contributed to helping our community every year; she calls it her New Years Resolution. Marie has actively participated in Make A Difference Day, a day dedicated to cleaning up county roads that collect litter from the past years’ traffic.  Marie offered the support of her Leadership class to the Keystone Science School by cutting back noxious weeds and cleaning up the trails in the areas around Keystone.  Marie very creatively organized baked goods sales at City Market so that her mountain biking team, Team Barbie, could raise money for the American Lung Association. The group raised a total of $1600. Marie enjoys helping the community that has given her a wonderful life.

KSMT will be awarding $1021 Community Connection Scholarship monthly through May 2008 to Summit High School seniors. KSMT will also be awarding a $3000 KSMT Communications Scholarship to a student studying communications and a $2500 Vocational Scholarship to a Summit High School senior pursuing a vocational or technical career.
